The pink nursing bra V2

Hi friends,

I’ve been loving pink lately more than usual. I mentioned in my last post that I purchased a pretty pink and black bra kit from Erin’s Etsy shop. So I couldn’t resist making my next nursing bra version in the lovely neon pink fabric that came with the kit, a pink lightweight no-stretch knit. Since the fabric was lightweight, I decided to underline it, and I chose silk organza for the job…

Modifications with respect to my last version:

• I traced a cup larger; a 24F from the EZI SEW nursing bra to better accomodate the girls.
• I also split and rounded the lower cup (at what appeared to be the apex) to allow some extra breast roundness.

 

The results:

 

Likeable & Dislikeable features:

Likes:

• I really love the pink and black fabric combo
• I think the fit of the band is perfect!

Dislikes:

• I think the decision to underline the cups and bridge with silk organza was a terrible one:
  • First of all, I had to fuse both fabrics to cut through with more ease.
  • Once the fabrics were fused, I worked with them as a single fabric.
  • Although the pink fabric is a lightweight no-stretch knit, I think that the difference in the fabric weaves is one of the reasons that there are so many wrinkles in the cup seams…
  • The cup seams turned out super itchy because the silk started to fray!!
  • I’m now left with no more of this beautiful pink loving fabric, which is a pity…
• The straps fall over to the sides during the day, so I should rotate them towards the center at the front and make them a little closer at the back.
• The position of the bust apex is off, I need to move it up by 1.5″ and outwards by 1″ so that it hits the nipple.
• There seems to be too much ease at the neckline, so I will take in 0.5″.
• The cups sag!!! Blaaagghhh!!!! I will remove the lower cup seam and try some other modifications…

Unfortunately, the fit of the bra is not good, and this is definitely not wearable. Next I will try some pattern modifications for the cups in muslin and let you know how it goes.

BTW, this past weekend we meet at the Musée du costume et du textile du Québec for a lovely evening with sewing bloggers in Montreal. Needless to say, we had a blast drinking tea and listening to Beatrice Marrelli Pearson’s life and fabulous wardrobe stories.
