The black-lace dress

Hi my dears,

This week was fantastic. A great step in my career was accomplished and I want to share it with you. I graduated from my PhD in Physics. It was a very rich experience and I got to learn a lot about science, life and people. One of the main reasons I love science is because it is challenging and it stimulates my creativity to solve problems. This is pretty much the reason why I love to sew as well. One of the added advantages to sewing is that I get to feel more confident about myself.

For the convocation ceremony I wore a black-lace dress, a cocktail dress which I made for a very special wedding back in January. It is, thus, intended for very special occasions.

It is, as many of the garments I make, a mishmash of patterns. The bodice is taken from Burda 2012/08 and the skirt is a self-drafted pencil skirt tapered at the bottom.

I got the fabric from Chabanel in a fabric shopping trip with my friend Myriam.

Here is the dress:

I really LOVE it!

I feel truly comfortable wearing it. I love the boat neckline and the fact that I don’t have to worry about showing too much cleavage as I do with other garments. I think this cocktail dress is appropriate for all special occasions.

Have you seen Tanya’s pattern review on Marbella? I think her version of that dress and this dress look quite similar. What do you reckon? (pose and all)

Check out her blog! She is such a great inspiration!

Do you like my dress/ our dresses? Do you have any cocktail dresses or dresses that you wear to special occasions?

❤ M
